Day 34 of Dyson Repair

Called 'Waters Appliance Service Inc.' to get status on our Dyson vacuum repair. It was dropped off on September 12, 2009. It is now October 16 and we are still waiting. Last we heard, they were waiting for a part. Hope they don't use Fedex.

Speaking to "Butch". He says, "It's on order but we haven't received." They use UPS he says. He says it was ordered on September 30.

I asked, "Do you think it's normal to wait weeks and weeks for a shipment?" He said it's normal for them.

He says, "One time, it took a couple of months for them to get it. Both motors were bad. We just got one order in but this stuff wasn't in it. They don't have it where we order it from and they're waiting for it. I'll bring it to Mr. Waters' attention."

I told him that I am publicizing my experience online because I think it's ridiculous to be without a vacuum for months.

On a side note, looks like their website proofreader went on vacation when this page was created:

Fedex delivery problems continued

So they gave up delivering and they put the pick-up sticker on the mechanical door for the suite where the A/C unit is etc. If the guy turned around, he would have seen the door to the suite with all the offices in it.

Adventures with Fedex

The other day, I ordered a scanner from Woot (http://woot.com). Asked for shipping via Fedex. Figured I'd put my business address in there as I'm going to use it for work.

Checked the tracking today and realized they have tried to deliver the last 2 days but at 7:28 pm and 6:12 pm respectively. Well at that time, the building is locked. Also, I'm typically out the door at 5:30 pm. So I called today to ask if they could deliver during the day. The woman told me that they cannot change their route path. So I asked, "May I change the address to my home address then?" She said only the shipper could do that. I told her I ordered it online. So I asked what happens if they don't deliver before the building closes today and she said it would sit at Alexandria waiting for me to pick it up. Well that's 35 miles away from where I am. So I asked if there was any closer place they could leave it for me to pick it up and she said no.

She told me the reason for the late delivery is that it's set to 'home delivery' which is a different truck than commercial. I said, "Well the guy came here two nights in a row and I'm sure he can tell it's not a residence. Can't they just put it on the commercial truck?" She said no because the shipper pays a different rate for residential.

So I said, "Basically I'm out of luck and I can't get this package." And she said I could pick it up in Alexandria.

I think the most frustrating thing about issues like this is it's very clear what the problem is and I'm on the phone trying to solve it with absolutely no help from the shipper. They would rather just ship it back than solve the problem.

Dyson Vacuum Problems cont'd...

Called 'Waters Appliance Service' to get status on our Vacuum. It's been in their care since September 12, 2009. So it's been almost a month of waiting.
3:35 pm - person answering says, "1 second"
3:42 pm - still waiting
3:43 pm - "so what's the job #?'
She said they are waiting for a part to come in. I said it's been there almost a month. What is the expected time frame. She said shipments come every couple of days and they will call me when it's done.
