Packet8 plot thickens

I had 2 accounts with packet 8. I called 2x to cancel the one number but keep the other number. Well they canceled both so now our home phone is dead. I called to ask about it and no customer service now. The problem is I did intend to move the number to another carrier after this experience but not yet. Now I will probably lose the number. Terrible customer service.

Update on packet8

Still enabled. Called back to cancel. She says it was sent to cancel but taking longer to send email because the cancellation dept is busy. Taxes and fees bill a month behind. So one more bill after this one even for taxes and fees even though I paid 8/1-8/31 ahead. So I asked if taxes/fees were waived on first bill and she wasn't sure.

Let's see if Packet8.net easier to cancel

Step 1 - Look on account login for cancellation options. None found.
Step 2 - Google how to cancel. Lots of complaints online including suggestions to send a certified letter asking to cancel.
Step 3 - Call the 800# on the site.
Step 4 - Speaking to customer service. Said want to cancel 1 of the 2 accounts I have. She put me on hold. Listening to music.
Step 5 - 3 minutes later, she came back online said it will be canceled today. If so this is quite excellent compared to Vonage. I liked Packet8 more from the beginning but wondered if this would be the turning point. So far, not.

Cancelling Vonage is fun

Step 1, scour the website looking for cancellation info. Can't find anything. Do a google and found some obscure reference to cancellation. Called the #. They said to call during the week to speak to an account manager.
Step 2, call during the week. Spoke to first person, they transferred me to someone else. That second person dropped the line.
Step 3, call back again, type in phone number. First person who answers asks me for the phone number again. In the age of computers, this really drives me nuts. I just typed it in and the person talking to me has no knowledge of it (or maybe they ask for some other reason but it is really irritating).
Step 4, speaking to sales person. Trying to convince me to keep Vonage. Having to go through all this trouble to cancel should really be illegal.
Step 5, after 10 minutes of begging, she finally said they respected my decision. Now, can I please be put on hold while she does the cancellation? I say yes.
Step 6, back on line, please wait 2 minutes while I get the confirmation number.
Step 7, back on line, can you confirm your email address. We are waiting for disconnection button.
Step 8, cancelled.
